American Thinker is one of my favorite websites as of late. The variety of essays, commentaries, and commentators is refreshing. Included below is one of the most intriguing articles of the past week. It describes how a self-described “brain-dead” liberal began to study the conservative viewpoint. He later becomes a conservative himself.
In the article it mentions a phenomenon I’ve noticed for some time. The Democratic Party is increasingly led by the far left, or progressive, wing of the party. It amazes me how ignorant some people are to what is currently happening right before their eyes. I’m going to have to check out some of the books mentioned in the article.
During my colleges days, I fell for a man who then had many similar interests as me, etc. We became great friends; some of my favorite memories of college include him. Today, as I learn more about him and his life since college, I can’t help but wonder what went so terribly wrong.
I am so glad that we only ever were friends. Quite frankly, I don’t even know if we could be friends today. We don’t understand each other politically. I know for a fact that he is sincerely trying to understand the conservative point of view. He doesn’t get it. That’s all fine and good, but if you don’t understand conservatives, for the love of God and country, admit that you are a Democrat! At the very least admit you are liberal or liberal progressive. Like many men, he just won’t commit!
I apologize for this rant, but it is seriously getting under my skin. I had so many wonderful politically laced conversations with this man at one time. It appeared as though we saw things in a similar light. I suppose not. I guess Chicago changes a person.
Liberal progressives will never get it. They will never understand why conservative women hold the positions they do. Unfortunately, liberal progressives often write off conservative women as “uninformed,” “reactionaries,” or “bigots.” It is sheer stupidity.
For a political philosophy that supposedly honors diversity and varying viewpoints, liberal progressives only seem to approve of those who see things exactly as they do. They set out to destroy those who don’t. In that way the current Democratic party, under Barack Obama’s leadership, is acting like a school yard bully.
“You’re a woman. You must certainly be a Democrat, considering abortion rights and all.” I actually had that one tried on me during my college years. I tore the guy apart. I can’t stand it when someone assumes that I hold certain views. If there is one thing for which I will not stand, it is someone trying to think for me. That is what MSNBC needs to understand. There are millions of women who will no longer remain silent while others put words in their mouths. They refuse to be bullied any longer.
November 2nd is looking better and better. It is damn time we all got back to work.
Stories like those above illustrate exactly why I can’t stand feminism in its current form. They also highlight a fundamental reason why I will never support the Democratic party. There truly is a double standard between not only Democrats and Republicans, but also between progressives and conservatives. The “mainstream” media marginalize women who dare state they are pro-life, conservative, and/or support Second Amendment rights. Why?
It just doesn’t fit the agenda, does it? When you continually play the victim, you can’t have someone who you also consider a victim (i.e. other women) take responsibility for their own lives. What sends a clearer message of personal responsibility than supporting fiscally conservative policies, adoption over abortion, and gun rights? If you think about it for just a few minutes, it becomes clear why Democrats feel they need to destroy viable female conservative candidates at any cost.
Organizations such as NOW continually have to reassert their relevance by playing the victim. That is why their continued support of Jerry Brown boggles the mind. My theory is this: No conservative or marginally conservative candidate is willing to play the victim. Certainly the Republican Party is no place for victims. As a result, NOW supports the Democrat in the race at all costs, even if they know they shouldn’t condone the actions of his campaign.
I don’t understand how moral relativists sleep at night; I couldn’t. I could write a ten page rant on this subject, but I won’t. I do recommend readers check out the links to The Anchoress. I’ve followed her blog for years. She loses me with her religious post as I am not Catholic, but her political tirades (see above) make it all worth it. What’s funny is that she doesn’t consider herself a Republican and possibly not even a conservative. Her views seem to come from a place of common sense slightly right-of-center. Unfortunately, it is a view that is largely lost in current American society.
One last note: You’ll also want to check out Althouse below. It is another great blog attempting to view this political mess from a common sense approach. At least there are a few grown-ups left out there.
